2001 – Reunion 2001

Sat, 09/21/2013 – 21:37 — dgmccown

   Reunion 2001 was held on June 16, 2001 at Six Flags Over Texas. (Pictures not yet available.)  The reunion was an all day event, held in the park, to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Six Flags.  The Reunion was opened to everyone that worked in the park and their families.   Reunion 2001 was sponsored in cooperation with the park administration.

    Approximately Four hundred and fifty former employees, from various departments and all different seasons, and their families attended the event.  Among our guests were twelve employees from the park’s first season, 1961; Errol McKoy, a first-year employee that became general manager of the park in 1978, and his wife Sandy Mckoy; and Mary Temple Wynne, an early employee of the park and daughter of the park’s founder Angus Wynne.

   Our program consisted of a trip through time to visit the park in 1968, as well as a recap of the first 25 years and then of the first 40 years of the park’s history.

   The park also provided 12 door prizes which were presented during the rally.

   The Reunion included:

 A day in the park at an incredible price;
 meeting and visiting during the day at our booth in the Mexican section;
 A rally/program at the Southern palace;
 A two hour after hours fling with exclusive ride time on the Titan and the Giant;
 Free food;
 kiddie packages to entertain the little ones, with items donated by the park and the association.

 Why: More than 12 million Americans (one in 31) are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene. Through events like this the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will continue to create and fund innovative research programs that will someday save the lives of those affected with the disease. In the United States 1 of every 2,000 births results in cystic fibrosis. There are many families counting on our success. The speed with which we find new treatments and a cure for cystic fibrosis is of great importance. Half of the people with cystic fibrosis die by the time they reach their early thirties.
